I was a wee lad, not sure how old, maybe second grade? Well, My sister and I had ditched out on church services, or something. We ended up downstairs in one of the classrooms. Next thing I know, we created what was to be named Herbert Zink. A round headed kid with freckles, a propeller bini-cap with an American Flag on the top. He had a stick body, and his tung hung out of his mouth.
I took this character and continued to draw him. As well as draw several other characters to create this fantastical town complete with a Jazz playing tabby. Each of my four siblings were all good at something. They each had their own specialty and here I was the runt of the litter, and I had a lot to live up to. Constantly being compared to the others wasn't always fun. So, I tried to make drawing my thing. I drew all the time, creating new characters, copying styles from comic books and fantasy artists. I have always drawn a bit, here and there but, something in me always held me back. I wish I knew what it was... maybe I would have been a famous artist by now. I was even hired to do caricatures at my own high school after prom party. I had a line the whole time I was there. Not that they were that fantastic... but cause people had fun I suppose. Well anyway, I haven't really drawn anything major for a while, and I was thinking of maybe getting back into it regularly. Just as a hobby, cause it was always fun for me. Who knows.. maybe it will lead to something else.
Hell yeah! I dig this photo - I think it would make a GREAT avatar personnally.
So you started in 2nd grade? Later bloomer! I began at 3 maybe 4 years old - doing Superman drawings.
I know the feeling of breaking from drawing - I wish I had stayed on it more during my Army years and more frequently in College. Maybe I'd be a 'somebody' now too. But I'm working to correct that lapse in judgement.
This is most excellent! It's the kind of photos I like the best... one's of people involved in creating art... or doing hobbies. I always have admired people who can draw. With the cameras now days most people can take a decent picture... the ones that take great pictures have, what I like to call, an eye for a good capture, but drawing or painting, that's a true art. The ability to create something you see with your minds eye is simply mind boggling to me. And to be able to duplicate what you see is also great. Keep it up!

Yeah, those people are also mind boggling to me... I have never been able to 'visualize' before I create a drawing. I just kind of create and see where it takes me. Like that drawing for instance, I wanted to draw a female character... it was even going to be of a friend for a friend of a character of their book they are writing. And as you can see, it ended up someplace different L()L. Im just silly.
More than anything, get back into drawing to create ideas! I find drawing really helps me create characters and/or situations. Plus it's just fun to experiment.
Great photo as well, btw, like the angle on it.
I have no trouble creating ideas... it's putting them down is what I have difficulty with. If there was a machine that could suck my brains and compile all of my thoughts and ideas down, there would be several... hundred masterpieces of art, and poetry, and stories, and novels, and and and... but as it is now.. I am still working on creating a single one.
